KCRA 3: New task force aims to combat human trafficking crisis in Sacramento County

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. —

Sacramento County law enforcement will now work with the California Attorney General’s Office and Homeland Security in a new task force aimed at combating human trafficking.

The Sacramento regional human trafficking task force is the third of its kind to be launched in California. San Diego and Fresno were the first to be a part of this partnership with the DOJ.

“Together, it creates a team that will share intelligence, we’ll share resources, we’ll share strategy,” said California Attorney General Rob Bonta.

Bonta said the partnership will allow different law enforcement agencies to collaborate and share data with the ultimate goal of convicting more sex traffickers and providing resources to human trafficking victims.

“We found over a 5-year period in Sacramento County there have been over 13,000 victims of sexual trafficking, and that number is grossly underrated,” said Sacramento District Attorney Thien Ho.

Ho told KCRA 3 that his office has prosecuted nearly 100 human trafficking cases since becoming the county’s district attorney.
